Our commitment to supporting local communities

At NorthEdge, we take our responsibilities seriously – as investors, employers and as members of the communities we operate in.

In recognition of the International Day of Charity, we’re sharing the commitments we have made to improving our communities and the charitable contributions we have made so far this year.

Our overall charitable mission is to support charities in our regions that are aligned to our values, aligned to our DE&I strategy and support people to get into/progress their careers and/or education. In late 2022 we implemented a Charity Committee to enable us to achieve our objectives.

The NorthEdge Charity Committee are responsible for:

  1. Identifying the charities we support each year in line with our mission
  2. Instigating activities that support our chosen charities as well as seasonal events
  3. Measuring the impact made through our charitable activities
  4. Allocating and signing off all charitable spend per region and per charity
  5. Encouraging our colleagues to commit time as well as monetary donations

So far this year we’ve been proud to raise money for a number of incredible charities, running events that have been supported by our portfolio and the wider deals community – demonstrating the power of our industry:

Supporting Smart Works for International Women’s Day

In recognition of International Women’s Day 2023, we ran a series of activities throughout the month of March in support of Smart Works – a UK charity that exists to give women the confidence they need to reach their full potential, secure employment and change the trajectory of their lives.

As part of a networking event held at the end of March, we collected clothing donations and asked people to pledge their time, alongside us, to volunteer at Smart Works. Collectively we pledged a total of 125 hours to support the new Manchester Smart Works centre, alongside raising £785.

London Marathon

In April our Executive Chair, Grant Berry, ran the London Marathon in support of the National Brain Appeal – a charity close to his heart. Joined by 48,000 fellow runners and cheered on by the mass crowds, Grant finished the marathon in a time of four hours and 51 minutes.

In total, Grant managed to raise an astonishing £44,000, plus an additional £9,000 of gift aid, for the National Brain Appeal. The charity raises vital funds to support world leading centres for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with neurological and neuromuscular conditions

Amsterdam to Lille

In June Michael Joseph, sponsored by NorthEdge, cycled from Amsterdam to Lille in support of PACE – a charity that supports children with neuro-disabilities. Michael cycled a total of 230 miles in three and a half days alongside a group of 30 riders.

Michael and the team managed to raise £45,000 from the event.

Charity Golf Day

In July, we hosted our annual Charity Golf Day at The Wilmslow Golf Club, once again in support of the National Brain Appeal.

Welcoming 23 teams and 96 golfers to the course, everyone enjoyed a full day of golf in the glorious sunshine, followed by a charity dinner in the evening, raising £53,000 in the process.

A Day in the Dales

We also held our ‘A Day in the Dales’ charity walk in July in support of Yorkshire Children’s Charity – a charity that helps children across Yorkshire, where one third of children live in poverty, who are at a disadvantage in life due to disability, ill health, or financial circumstance.

Welcoming 15 teams and 87 walkers from across the investment community to the event, everybody enjoyed a full day in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, walking eleven miles around Appletreewick in Wharfedale. In total we were delighted to raise £15,000 for the charity and we are already planning the 2024 event!
