NorthEdge 2022 ESG Forum – Taking Responsibility

NorthEdge 2022 ESG Forum – Taking Responsibility

Earlier this week we held our second portfolio forum of the year for our CEOs, centred on the topic of ESG. The day highlighted the importance of building better businesses that are both sustainable and diverse to create value for all stakeholders. The carbon neutral event, held at King Street Townhouse hotel, was attended by 27 representatives from 21 of our portfolio businesses.

At NorthEdge, we believe that the best way to make a positive and sustainable impact is by sharing best practice and learnings with one another. Therefore, we were delighted to see leaders from across the portfolio attending the forum, coming together to connect, collaborate and share their expertise.

Throughout the day we heard from several of our operating partners covering a number of topics, including net zero with Positive Planet – focusing on how to measure emissions and build credible carbon reduction plans, mental fitness with Sanctus and how our leaders can take a pro-active approach to support their teams, how to challenge cyber and information security at a Board level with Mazars, and an Insights Discovery session with Ripple Partners, which highlighted why all forms of diversity in leadership teams can bring greater business success. The day concluded with a discussion on why transparency, reporting and communication is a fundamental part of ESG – including case studies from across the portfolio and our core sectors.

To ensure bringing people together from across the country didn’t impact the environment, a number of attendees travelled by public transport and all carbon emissions associated with the event were offset through our partners Positive Planet:

  • 3 tCO2e emissions offset through the Sichuan Poor-Household Biogas Project, Sumatra Peatland Project and Kenya Cookstoves Project
  • 30 trees planted

We also had portfolio company Clearly Drinks’ Northumbria Spring canned water keeping us refreshed throughout the day to ensure there were no single use plastics at the event!

A big thank you goes to all of our speakers and to everyone who took time out of their busy diaries to attend the 2022 ESG Forum. We hope all of the attendees took something away from the day to help them enhance and communicate their E,S & G initiatives over the coming months.

All of the materials from the event have been made available on our Nexus platform, which is exclusively available for NorthEdge portfolio company leadership teams.
