In our sixth episode of Beyond the Capital we spoke to Lights4fun Chair, David Stern.
With over 30 years’ experience of running businesses within the health and beauty industry, David’s career has seen him work for several leading direct-to-consumer brands worldwide. He spent 11 years at Unilever in a number of high-profile leadership positions, both in the United States and the United Kingdom, then spent five years in Japan for Kao Corporation as the Regional Executive Officer, responsible for running their global brand portfolio in over 50 different regions.
David then had stints as an entrepreneur and worked as CEO at both Ouidad and Crabtree & Evelyn in New York. After leading Crabtree through a successful transformation, taking it from a traditional retail business to a fast-growing digital e-commerce business, David started to have conversations with Private Equity firms and noticed there was a real interest in digital transformation. During this time he started to have in-depth conversations with NorthEdge about Lights4fun, which eventually turned into his first Chair role with us in November 2020.
From explaining why the people aspect of business has been the most rewarding for him and why a diverse business is vital for success, to providing a unique insight on branding and digital transformation, our conversation with David is packed full of fantastic lessons and advice from throughout his career.
