Getting to know Distology CEO Hayley Roberts

Getting to know Distology CEO Hayley Roberts

In our fifth episode of Beyond the Capital we caught up with the positively infectious Hayley Roberts, CEO of portfolio company Distology.

Early on in her working life Hayley couldn’t decide between a career in acting and law, but ended up choosing to study Business Studies at De Montfort University. Upon graduation, Hayley was considering offers for a graduate role at either IBM or a toiletries business. Rather surprisingly Hayley took the toiletries job, feeling there were more areas she could have an instant impact – character traits that have stayed with her throughout her career.

Progressing in her career, Hayley moved on to be successful in sales and marketing at a publishing business, working on the circulation figures and direct marketing strategies for different titles. Hayley was then headhunted numerous times, and worked in Vice President roles at several large corporations internationally.

Whilst juggling her career with the responsibilities of being a Mum, Hayley decided it was time to take on a new challenge. She moved into tech, joining a cyber security distribution company as General Manager and became increasingly interested in the new technologies that were being developed and sold through the channel. Shortly after the business had been bought by a larger firm, Hayley decided to join a software security manufacturer where she oversaw considerable growth across the next 18 months.

Despite her love for the role and a passion for the industry she was working in, the long commute to Hampshire drove Hayley to contact the former owner of her previous company. After several positive discussions on the formation of a new business, he invested to support Hayley set up Distology in 2015.

From learning to make the best of everything, the importance of having a positive impact on the people around her, creating an open minded approach to D&I and culture within Distology and their industry, and her view on why taking private equity investment has been the best business decision she has made, our conversation with Hayley is full of brilliant insights, lessons and advice from throughout her life and career.
