Getting to know NorthEdge Partner and COO Prem Mohan Raj

In our latest episode of Beyond the Capital we spoke to Prem Mohan Raj, Partner and COO at NorthEdge.

After moving to the UK from India at the age of 5, Prem spent his formative years in Yorkshire growing up in Batley and Dewsbury. As both his parents were doctors, Prem went to medical school briefly before realising he was more interested in going down the route of economics and politics. Post university Prem joined Deloitte to train as an accountant in London, which gave him a good grounding of the broader financial markets. After three years in audit and one year in corporate finance, Prem decided he wanted to have more involvement making key decisions in a business. As a result Prem joined NatWest Bank, working in both the strategy and investor relations departments, before moving onto a small technology business. Despite being in the midst of the dot-com crash, Prem enjoyed working in a smaller business where he could make changes directly and see that translated into action. Prem then applied for a job with private equity firm, Coller Capital, and has gone on to spend the last 18 years working in the industry. The last six of those years have been spent with NorthEdge where Prem initially joined as CFO, moving into the role of COO two years ago.

In this episode of Beyond the Capital, Prem explains the importance of selecting a supportive private equity partner that provides more than just capital, why he’s proud of the way NorthEdge has evolved its approach to diversity and inclusion and by understanding what your motivations, strengths and interests are, you can find a career that you truly enjoy.
