In our latest episode of Beyond the Capital we spoke to Nicola McQuaid, Director and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion lead at NorthEdge.
After studying Chinese at Leeds University, Nicola joined PwC to work in their audit team, but quickly recognised that she wasn’t a natural born accountant! Nicola then made the move to PwC’s corporate finance team, moving from London to Leeds in the process, where she spent seven years gaining valuable experience in the M&A market.
Deciding it was time for a change Nicola moved to JLA, a private equity backed business, where she was able to see the other side of the deal process as part of a management team and learn what it’s like to live with a deal once it’s been completed. After a few years at JLA, Nicola was looking for a role with some more variety, which led her to joining NorthEdge in 2016.
In this episode of Beyond the Capital Nicola explains the importance of being yourself at work, why building an inclusive culture supports people to reach their full potential, how diversity leads to positive business outcomes, and why a good private equity partner is someone you can have honest conversations with during both the good times and the bad.
