Getting to know Mark Gregory

Getting to know Mark Gregory

At NorthEdge, we’re continually seeking ways to evolve and challenge ourselves to keep building on the foundations we set in motion from our beginnings. Recently, we have been focusing on quantifying the economic and social value that NorthEdge contributes to the UK economy from the UK regions.

Alongside generating financial returns for our stakeholders, we are also committed to ensuring every investment we make has a positive impact. To establish our current level of impact, and understand how we can increase it in the future, we commissioned Business Economist Mark Gregory to undertake a detailed analysis of the economic and social value we created alongside our portfolio in 2023.

The findings, which can be read in full in our latest ESG Report, demonstrate the positive impact we generate across the UK regions. As a result of our investment and active ownership approach, our portfolio companies are more productive than average, pay higher wages than average and employ a large number of people from the most deprived areas of the UK – evidencing how our investment in people, innovation and businesses supports real economic growth and social impact.

In this special episode of our Beyond the Capital podcast, Mark delves further into the analysis and shares what reassured and surprised him in the findings. He also shares his perspectives on how these findings support the newly-formed Government’s agenda.

From his experience as a strategist and economist for PwC, IBM and EY, Senior Fellow at the Institute of Place Management and Visiting Professor of Business Economics at Staffordshire University, Mark offers unique and measurable insights into NorthEdge’s impact and contributions to the UK economy, alongside actions which the wider Private Capital industry can take to demonstrate performance, productivity and real economic value.
