Beyond the Capital – Looking Back Over Season One

Beyond the Capital – Looking Back Over Season One

It has been just over two years since we launched the Beyond the Capital podcast, starting with our first episode in October 2021, and we have thoroughly enjoyed lifting the lid on private equity throughout the 24 episodes we have shared since.

The podcast offers honest conversations with partners, inspiring CEOs, and experts across our industry, where listeners can hear their stories, listen to their thoughts on hot topics, and learn about what has given them the edge to succeed.

Looking back over our first season of Beyond the Capital, the series included speaking with leading experts on topics such as mental health, DE&I, and business culture. We also sat down with key partners and NorthEdge colleagues to speak about why they enjoy working in private equity, as well as hosting conversations with some of our portfolio leaders about their investment journeys, the value NorthEdge bring, their passion for business and busting some myths about the private equity industry.

Just a few of our highlights from season one include:

  • Our very first episode with George Bettany, co-founder of Sanctus, which included discussions about the practical ways to pro-actively work on our mental health. Listen here.

  • Chatting with NorthEdge Partners: Grant Berry in episode #2; Ray Stenton in episode #4; Andy Ball in episode #7; Prem Mohan Raj in episode #15; Keven Parker in episode #17; Jon Pickering in episode #21; and Phil Frame in episode #23 – all of whom shared their thoughts on what makes NorthEdge different and their route into private equity.

  • Finding out more about building businesses from behind the scenes with CEOs of our portfolio companies including Sophie Lawler from Total Fitness in episode #3; Hayley Roberts from Distology in episode #5; Tom Ray from Cloud Technology Solutions in episode #8; Hannah Haigh from Meet in episode #11; Rob Sinclair from Altia in episode #16; Christopher Grakal from ICP in episode #18; and Raman Sehgal and Emma Banks from ramarketing in episode #21.

  • Getting to know our NorthEdge Chairs: Colin Stirling in episode #19 and Paul Stobart in episode #14.

  • Our support of the 10,000 Black Interns Initiative culminated with a special episode alongside Elijah Essien, who joined us last summer for a six-week internship, as he shared what he learned during his time at NorthEdge. Listen here.

  • Recognising International Men’s Day with episodes featuring former professional rugby player and founder of Mantality, Stevie Ward, in episode #13 and co-founder and chair of #ANDYSMANCLUB, Luke Ambler, in episode #24. Both shared their inspiring stories and the importance of speaking out and looking after your mental health to allow you to reach your full potential.

We are already lining up more episodes for season two launching later this year, featuring guests talking about their own personal journeys and stories of the private equity world and beyond.
