2025: A Year in Review

2025: A Year in Review

As 2025 draws to a close, we wanted to reflect on the last 12 months across our business, portfolio and community.

During 2025, we continued our focus on generating liquidity for our investors, alongside building momentum within our core sectors. In January, we delivered the realisation of Altia from SME Fund I and completed a new investment into the company from Fund III. In June, we invested into Oak Engage, an employee engagement software platform based in Newcastle, to support the business to accelerate growth.

The completion of these two new platform investments builds on the nine portfolio bolt-on acquisitions and four liquidity events also completed over the last 12 months.

Outside of our deal activity, the portfolio has also continued to deliver strong growth – with average EBITDA growth of 36% year-on-year in our core sectors. However, growth hasn’t just come in the form of profitability. It has also come in the form of regional impact – where NorthEdge and its portfolio has contributed £656m GVA and supported c.10,000 FTEs, with 70% of this impact in the UK regions outside London and South East.

Continuing our focus on driving positive change and building better businesses, we released our fifth Sustainability Report, demonstrating our continued commitment to integrating ESG principles into every part of our investment process and highlighting the initiatives NorthEdge and our portfolio have delivered across the year.

We were very proud to see all of these achievements also being externally recognised, with NorthEdge winning four awards throughout 2025:

  • PE House of the Year: Lower Mid-Cap (EV on entry €25-50m) at the Real Deals Sustainable Investment Awards
  • Top Recognised Firm for the GP Below 1bn AUM at the BVCA Excellence in Sustainability Awards
  • Medium Deal of the Year for our investment into PebblePad at the Midlands Rainmaker Awards
  • Medium Deal of the Year for our exit of Cutwel at the Yorkshire Rainmaker Awards

During 2025, we raised and donated over £46,600 for a number of amazing charities including the Yorkshire Children’s Charity, Ella Dawson Foundation and Smart Works. This brings NorthEdge’s total charitable donations since inception to over £733,400 – supporting a number of charity partners across the UK regions with fantastic causes. We also ran our Mission Christmas campaign for the sixth year in a row – donating over 370 gifts to Wood Street Mission in Manchester and the Shoebox Appeal in Birmingham.

As always, we couldn’t have achieved all of this without Team NorthEdge. Therefore, we were delighted to announce the promotion of four members of our team this year – Dan Matkin, James Hales, Liam May were all promoted to Partner and Jordana Cropper was promoted to Director. We also welcomed three new members to the team during 2025 – two new Investment Managers, Aiden Hawkes and Serafina Di Felice, and George Riley as Accounts Assistant.

Finally, before we wrap up for the year, we would like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone in our business, portfolio and our network for their continued support. We look forward to working with all of our network, new and old, in 2026 as we continue to deliver on our mission of building better businesses, and communities, across the UK regions.
